ALBERT EINSTEIN

A human being is part of the whole, called by us the universe, limited in time and space.  He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.  This delusion is a prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons close to us.  Our task must be to embrace all humanity and the whole of nature in its beauty.

DANA CHODZKO

TIME is mind’s attempt to separate events in a supposed space that is made up of past, present and future.  This produces cause and effect.  In SPACE, atoms make molecules.  The movement of molecules makes sound, and the reflection of the molecules creates light.  Electrons are separated by space and held together by energy.  ENERGY is the life force, which protects matter from course vibrations.  MATTER is the solidification of spirit. Here the mind turns symbols, thoughts, and images into form, which manifest in the material world.

Are we all made from the same stuff as stars?  The universe is composed of areas that we call space, permeated by matter and non-matter – forms of visible and invisible radiation or light, and gravitational fields including the enigma called dark matter.  Without matter we cannot understand non-matter or antimatter.

Pendulums were an inspiration for early thought about the nature of the universe, teaching us about time, gravity and vibrations.  Gravity works on the mass of a pendulum attracting it to other points of matter. This produces its periodic movement. Clocks were developed from pendulums in an attempt to encapsulate the measurement of time. I call these thoughts the ancient quiver of time.

Energy, matter, and other physical phenomena have been studied by instruments such as linear accelerators, whose experiments accelerate particles and collide them, suspending them in space so they can be studied.  Axioms and theories evolve from these perceptions which expand our ability to understand the universe – the large and small, the expansion and contraction, the formation and destruction.

Stars appear as electromagnetic radiation or light – luminous realms in space, where matter and energy converge. Another conundrum in space is the lumpiness called dark energy, which cannot be accounted for.  Lately, scientists sense that the universe is not round, but flat.  It is also expanding, but the determined mass is not consistent with the expansion. Therefore, we do not know the outcome. Einstein’s antigravity and dark matter were names given to these clouds of unknowing. This vision is currently helping science determine if the universe will end in a whimper or a crunch.

My art is inspired by the wonderment and confusion of science as it questions the biggest mysteries of the cosmos.

The Ancient Quiver of Time

The “Ancient Quiver of Time” bronzes and pendulum boxes are part of my Einstein Alphabet which gives form to the formless ideas of time, space, energy and matter. Inspired by Einstein’s writings and the mysteries of the cosmos I used stars and pendulums as metaphors.

Art of the Cosmos

Art must stand alone, on its own, without language or ideas. And yet, I use the language of form to communicate infinite and often intangible ideas. I may be thinking about luminous realms in space where matter and energy converge, or the space between two points – both universal and personal at the same time.

Einstein’s antigravity was a name given to a cloud of unknowing, which was helping science determine if the universe would end in a whimper or a crunch. Another conundrum in space was dark energy, at one time, defined as ‘lumpiness in space’. And then there was the round or flat universe whose mass was not consistent with its expansion. I remember when the Stanford Linear Accelerator first suspended the Z particle in space so they could study it. Axioms and theories continue to evolve from perceptions, which expand our ability to understand the universe – the large and small, the formation and destruction.

I am interested in the evolution of information and ideas, materials, cultures and the human spirit. Without matter, I cannot understand antimatter. For me, matter becomes the solidification of spirit where mind turns symbols, thoughts and images into form, which manifest in the material world. I prefer surfaces that are aggregates with several layers in time, thought and materials.  In this work, I am inspired by the wonderment and confusion of science as it questions the biggest mysteries of the cosmos.
